I did a shoot for my friend Dan Hockstein's band, The Ivy League, at Don Hill's this weekend. It was fun; they're really great live. I suggest seeing them on February 2 or 29 if you live near Wilton, CT.
I've been considering making a "real" portfolio site. I've tried it a couple of times before and it's been a real hassle, though, so I need to organize myself and put time aside to dedicate to making it work. Anyone have any suggestions of hosting sites or template sites or something that will make this all easier?

Hahahah... you should be sorry you asked.
My ipod, some store-brand Purel, my headphones and ipod, two issues of Entertainment Weekly, one issue of Wired, loose papers, a hair tie, a lamp, and four books:
Book: Show us the latest book you bought, borrowed or received.
Well I bought three of them at once, so:
Mmm, the afterlife and Virginia Woolf. I'm so deep.
Moving on... Issue two of The Dawg Print is almost done. We're pretty on schedule as far as things go, but we should start planning the next issue. It's harder to run a newspaper than I thought it would be, even with two other editors-in-chief (well, one-and-a-half, to be more precise). Besides getting everyone organized you are expected to amass a large collection of Quark and printing knowledge in a very short period of time. It's tough, but it's fun, and I'm enjoying the experience and glad that I have M. (who is a senior and basically did all of the first issue because I was all over the place) to help run things and teach me the ways of the Mac.
So the Model UN conference is in a week and not only do I still have 3/4 of a position paper left to write, but I want to lose some weight to fit into my dress pants. I hate to admit that I let the media affect my self image, but I hate not being 110 pounds. I can't completely place the blame on magazines or any of those sort of things-- I know I should have more self-control when it comes to food-- but it just seems easier to point fingers than to take control of my own situation. But in any case, I'll be drinking a lot of green tea and exercising this weekend so that I can try to lose four pounds or something. I'm not disillusioned (or sick) enough to truly claim to think I'm "fat," (right now, at 4 in the afternoon after a fairly large lunch I am 121.5) but I think that I could use to lose a few pounds and tighten up my abs (my doctor's told me to lose weight, I guess that's some sort of indication).
Right. That's enough teenager for now, I suppose. We have to write a satire for English and although that is seemingly my "department" when it comes to writing, I'm drawing a blank. As far as I understand, it has to be based on Jonathan Swift's A Modest Proposal. Not only do I dislike basing my writing on that of someone else (theirs is ultimately better, and that tends to bruise my ego a bit), but I want to branch out as far as mode goes. I don't simply want to write an essay, I want to experiment with poking fun at all sorts of things (i.e. standardized tests, poems, etc.). I'll post it here when it's done, so I guess we'll see how it turns out in a few days.
Well I feel bad for just blathering on, so I'll cut this post loose. I'll try and come up with something of interest to write about in the next few days.

Here's to hoping I haven't posted this before.
I (finally) finished Angels & Demons yesterday (There's nothing too revealing up ahead, but I still wouldn't read this section unless you've already read the book or don't give a shit about spoilers)! And let me tell you-- the last hundred and fifty pages or so kept me clinging to my pillow.
I loved that Dan Brown wasn't afraid to spring multiple twists at the reader, and I was glad that it kept me amused, not confused. This book was, by far, better than both The Da Vinci code (which I read right before the film version came out) and Digital Fortress (which I read in 2004, I think). I liked that the character development was more involved than The Da Vinci Code's, and that the whole book was more fleshed out than Digital Fortress. A bit of praise on the back of the book calls it a great "real-time" adventure, an aspect of the book I hadn't even considered until I read the blurb (the time frame, I meant, not the fact that it's an adventure). The pacing of the book works well for it's 24-hour time frame. I can't recall any specific moment when I was bored or wanted to read something else. The last chapter with Robert and Vittoria was a bit lacking, to be honest. Their banter was cute, but really sort out of the tone of the whole book; it threw me a little off course.
In any case, I really enjoyed reading it. I think it fit the category of what I was looking for perfectly-- a fast-paced adventure novel with a brain.

Audio: What song do you listen to when you are sad?
Submitted by Nat.
There are a lot of them, some of the more mellow Regina Spektor pieces have caught my sad ear lately-- most notably Lacrimosa-- but I've really been moving towards listening to classical music. My top favorite piece of "sad music" is Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. It reminds me of two movies I really enjoyed watching: The Truman Show, and a short film I saw at the Tribeca Film Festival the first year that we went, in 2004. I really wish I could remember the name of it, but I searched through all of the Tribeca Archives and couldn't find it. Fred Jones Part 2 and Cigarette by Ben Folds and Ben Folds Five, respectively, are also great (even though I listed them in chronological reversal-- if you download them, listen to them in the other order). Speaking of Vox not working, I'm going to make this a segway to how I think Vox is functioning right now: it's not.
My tentative schedule for next year is, for lack of a long enough expletive, nuts:
1) AP English 4
2) AP European History
3) AP Calculus BC
4) AP Art History
5) AP Open Studio Art
6) Independent Study in some English related field
7) Lunch
8) Gym
9) Italian 4
Yeah, 5 Advanced Placement classes? Shoot me now, just get it over with. I got yelled at for dropping science (to quote my sister's favorite gym-teacher-turned-counselor after I told him the schools I wanted to apply to, "You know, I don't think dropping science will be good for the schools you want to go to."
"Why?" I asked, quite interested.
"Well, these kids applying there are taking AP everything. You should at least take a half-year elective."
"No offense or anything, but I'd rather take something worthwhile like Art History instead of wasting my time with an easy A blow off course like Forensics or Oceanography..."
"Hey, it's your choice. I just don't want you to come complaining to me afterwards."
Yeah. I'm sure Brown will just be crying thick blue tears that I'd rather spend time on culturing myself instead of sitting around with pothead seniors. Sure. Whatever you say.
I really hope I get both of the art classes-- I want to develop my photography portfolio so I have something tangible to hand colleges in addition to my writing.
Quote of the Day:
We were discussing Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences in English today, and our English teacher told us,
"Back in my day, they didn't have multiple intelligences. You had one intelligence. You took an IQ test, and that was it, that was your intelligence quotient. If you were 10 and scored on the level of a 12-year-old (writes it out on board), you were a 120 and had to go into the hard, boring classes. If you were 10 and scored on the level of a 9-year-old, (writes on board) you had a score of 90, and you got to go on field trips all the time and play kickball outside with Mr. Grimmles."
