Which TV show never "jumped the shark"?
Submitted by healthypanda.
Freaks and Geeks! I've been watching the DVDs over the past few months (I still haven't finished), and it's just amazing. I wish it was on long enough to jump the shark, haha.
Tell us two truths and a lie about yourself.
1) I once drove to Napoli with two Italian Franciscan nuns in the back seat. They had beer at a rest stop.
2) I met Paul Simon.
3) I don't have a microwave.
Now, guess!
What words make you giggle (no matter how old you are)?
Submitted by Margurette.
It's not the meaning of the word, just the pronunciation: Schmeling. (As in boxer Max Schmeling's last name.)
There are others, but I don't remember them. So. Yes.
Where do you go to get away from it all?
Submitted by Hops.
Generally the Internet, because everything on it is so ridiculous that it makes you forget about real life. Observe:
I was signing up for this art competition thing and it prompted me to enter my ethnicity. I scrolled through the options looking for Caucasian and happened upon the "physically challenged" option. I don't know about you guys, but last time I checked, "physically challenged" was not an ethnicity. Just sayin'.
Tell us about an event that changed your life forever.
Submitted by Miss Scotch.I find it difficult to explain the extent of the effect of Vonnegut's writing on my life; he made me truly want to be a writer, he made me excited about my life, and he made me believe that all human being except for me were robots.
Rest in peace, Kurt.
What's the story behind a time when you got locked out?
It's eerie that this is the question of the day-- I just got locked out for the first time a couple of hours ago. I was coming home from a PTSO meeting (again, to figure out what's going on with our school system) and got a voicemail from my parents letting me know that they were out for a walk. Well, I really had to piss (excuse my language) and I didn't have a key, so I was freaking out. I remembered that we have a spare key, and went to go look for it. It was a long and tedious search in the dead of night, but I finally got it and opened the door. Needless to say, I'll be carrying my keys with me from now on.
What is one of your favorite poems?
Submitted by marvel is my pen name.
The formatting his hard to get right, and since this hasn't been put on the internet, I'd feel bad doing it incorrectly, but here is Richard Siken's Planet of Love:
Imagine this:
You're driving.
The sky's bright. You look great.
In a word, in a phrase, it's a movie,
you're the star.
so smile for the camera, it's your big scene,
you know your lines.
I'm the director. I'm in a helicopter.
I have a megaphone and you play along,
because you want to die for love,
you always have.
Imagine this:
You're pulling the car over. Somebody's waiting.
You're going to die
in your best friend's arms.
And you play along because it's funny, because it's written down,
you've memorized it,
it's all you know.
I say the phrases that keep it all going,
and everybody plays along.
Imagine:
Someone's pulling a gun, and you're jumping into the middle of it.
You didn't think you'd feel this way.
There's a gun in your hand.
It feels hot. It feels oily.
I'm the director
and i'm screaming at you,
I'm waving my arms in the sky,
and everyone's watching, everyone's
curious, everyone's
holding their breath.
It was tough to pick just one, but I picked this because few people have heard of Siken and I want to expose more of the populace to his lovely work.
What method do you use to prepare your coffee or tea?
Submitted by AgentBouche.
I drew it out for you guys to make it less complicated:
I'm a black tea person-- no sugar, no cream or milk, just Earl Grey.
And coffee sucks. ;) No matter how much I try to like it, I just can't bring myself to drink anything stronger than a latte. Which is a shame, too, considering we have a very nice espresso/cappuccino machine downstairs.
If you could recommend your top 5 favorite Voxers for someone new to Vox to read, who would they be?
Submitted by Lili.
Marc Johns, master of Post-it drawings and my favorite type of off-color dark/random humor.
Blackmountain has some very pretty collages and photographs in her Vox. :)
A Girl Named Rock has some great NYC-centered material that really helps me out when I want to plan trips to the city.
Audible has some fantastic poetry.
Kris Atomic and Stephanie J's blogs are my two top sources for fashion updates.
That's six, but I don't care.
