I figured you all (or some of you, at least) would like to hear of my adventures "out on the town" (ignore the fact that I sound like an old woman using that banal phrase). Well, my friend R and I took the train out to New York for the Manhattan Vintage Clothing Show & Sale. Unfortunately, we got there with only two-and-a-half hours to spare, which is just too little time for any girl in her right mind to peruse the racks of designer vintage garb. In retrospect, I should have brought my monstrous camera and pretended to be press so that I could get some photographs of the space-- it was enormous and stuffed to the very walls with clothes. (Although I'm somewhat glad I didn't bring the hardware-- it was raining like a bitch and would have gotten soaked.) But most of the vendors were very nice and helpful, although it was hard to bargain with most of them. I got a fairly good deal on a $35 dress, a $45 necklace, and two photographs ($7.50 and $5.00).

We then met up with our friend Wally who goes to SVA (the School of Visual Arts) and headed over to a Japanese restaurant called East. The food wasn't impressive, even after a couple of Asahis.
But it was a lovely night, all-in-all, and despite the potentially pneumonia-inducing weather, I enjoyed myself. I love the city, love the crowds, love the way that social barriers are destroyed and people have to resort to the most organic levels of existence and conversation.
